Governor General's Foot Guards
Youth Awards 2025

The Governor General’s Foot Guards (GGFG) believe in the potential of Ottawa/Outaouis youth.  Once again, the regimental family has decided to give back to the community that has supported us so well over the years by presenting the GGFG Youth Achievement Awards.  This year, in cooperation with like-minded civic partners, we are delighted to present four $2500 awards to youth whose ability, hard work, and perseverance merits special recognition.   We seek to celebrate and incentivize high performing young people in the Ottawa region as they pursue educational advancement or skills development.

The GGFG are Canada’s senior primary reserve infantry regiment.  Based in Ottawa, the “Foot Guards” are recognized worldwide, proudly serving Canada domestically and internationally on operational deployments and ceremonial duties.  Members of the GGFG are trained to a high standard and demonstrate principles, skills and professionalism that are indicative of model citizens.  Those values and skills provide a lifelong foundation that is readily transferable to family life, work and community involvement.  By encouraging youth to pursue similar life-skills, we hope to help develop tomorrow’s model citizens.

We have endeavoured to make the Youth Award application/nomination process as simple as possible.  Besides an application form identifying the nominee or applicant, interested parties are requested write a brief essay/nomination explaining why that individual deserves recognition.  Applicants/nominees will be assessed upon how well they meet the criteria detailed below.  Please note these are the same characteristics, traits and attributes our regiment expects of its citizen soldiers.

  • Pursuit of excellence;

  • Going above and beyond;

  • Overcoming adversity

  • Drive and determination

  • Pride of service to the community and country

Detailed instructions about the application process are at the link below.   Please note that email submissions to ggfgyouthawards@gmail.ca are requested not later than February 9th 2025.  Interviews (if required) will take place the following week.  In turn, the Awards presentations are scheduled for the evening of March 1st 2025 at the Rogers Centre in Ottawa.  It is hoped recipients will then apply the proceeds of their awards to the upcoming academic year.

The Ottawa/Outaouis region is fortunate to have so many bright, hardworking and promising young citizens in our community.   We believe the GGFG Youth Achievement Awards will build upon that inherent potential by helping the next generation of young leaders succeed in achieving their goals.  On behalf of the entire GGFG regimental family, please accept our sincere thanks for helping us to identify deserving young people who merit our collective support.
